KDF 55 Patented Media

KDF media is made from a copper-zinc alloy. KDF is a patented and is an NSF-Certified water treatment material in use since the mid-1980s.

KDF works in 3 ways. First it removes most of the chlorine from the water before the chlorine reaches the carbon part of the filter. This allows the carbon to perform higher levels of filtration beyond dechlorination, such as removal of THM's and VOC's.

KDF has filtration properties including the ability to remove lead and other heavy metals through a natural oxidation, reduction process. Finally KDF is a bacteriostatic media so it inhibits bacteria growth from within the filter itself.
